SUNDAY SCHOOL

Jesus called them to him saying “Let the children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the Kingdom of God”

(Luke 18:16)

The Chembur Sunday school  is affiliated to The Mar Thoma Sunday School Samajam and is an important part of Chembur Parish for the past 50  years and more. Nurturing young minds and upholding their needs and addressing their curiosity in faith & beliefs of the Church from an early stage, together with scriptural learning, is the single-minded focus of Sunday School. It complements the good efforts of the parents and family.

The strong foundation for Sunday School was laid down by our own senior members who made it their passion to bring children to Sunday School in the formative years of the parish. Many families opened their homes to conduct the activities. We remain thankful and record our gratitude  to them. Fondly remembering all our senior members, who, then took up the initiative to  the beginning of the Scriptural learning for their children. Initially, Sunday School used to be held at different places but at a later stage it was consolidated and conducted within the church premises.

Currently, our Chembur Sunday school functions smoothly under the leadership of the Headmistress and a committed team of teachers. They receive constant guidance from our Achens from time to time.  Lively singing sessions followed by classes as per age group is held every Sunday at 8 am. Our enthusiastic bunch of children are active participants in various Centre, Diocese and Kendram level programs and competitions, winning laurels for our church from time-to-time. SAVE A LITTLE LIFE program of Mumbai Diocese and our own outreach programs, visits to orphanages etc. sees active participation. A recent activity that was undertaken was a ‘Date Calendar’ with a biblical verse for each day that can be used year-after-year.

The WORLD SUNDAY SCHOOL DAY is observed with great joy and enthusiasm, as our children take up the lead in every aspect of the Sunday service  that day right from the altar boys. Children look forward to this day and go back enriched with the experience.

The curriculum approved  by the Mar Thoma Sunday School Samajam is meticulously  followed, with the Annual exams and the BIRUDH exams held as per the instructions from the Samajam.

Over the years with the grace and mercy of our Lord God Almighty and the leadership  of our vicars from time-to-time, support of our parents and the prayers of the congregation we, at the Chembur Sunday school, have been able to impart spiritual knowledge to the children entrusted to us.

May the good Lord bless us all and keep us under His loving care.
