SENIOR CITIZENS' FELLOWSHIP

The Senior Citizens’ Fellowship of Chembur Mar Thoma Parish was formed to gather all members above the age of 60 for their fellowship meetings and other support activities. In Chembur Parish this fellowship plays a vital role in fostering one to one relationship and nurturing the spiritual growth of the members. Many of this group are the founders of Chembur Mar Thoma parish and have strong emotional connect to various activities. They have made significant contributions to the growth of the parish since its inception in 1968.

The members usually meet on the 1st Sunday of every month after the Sunday worship. Prayer, Bible study and sharing are amongst the activities in these meetings. Besides the fellowship activities within the Parish, senior members are also actively involved in the affairs of Mumbai Centre and also at Diocesan level. Camps and retreat organised at various times sees prayerful participation from our members. Members make it a point to visit homes of other senior members who may not be physically active and confined to their residence and provide encouragement and emotional support.

The 3rd Sunday of September of each year is observed as Senior Citizens’ Day. This day see an active role for all senior members in the church worship service through bible reading, sermon, assistance in holy communion, offertory collections etc.  Another event that all senior members look forward to is the Christmas Carols Service. In a separate section meant for them, ‘the Silver Streak’-senior citizen choir sing joyfully celebrating the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
